ABOUT THE IMPACT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
The Impact Leadership Academy (ILA) is a collection of programs and opportunities open to aspiring leaders, who are regularly attending and engaged with City Impact’s core faith programming.
Purpose/Vision: Our goal is to see youth empowered through understanding of their talents and strengths and equipped to be servant leaders in their community.

City Impact Mentoring
City Impact Mentoring matches students with an adult in the community to meet one-on-one a few times per month. Mentor pairs are encouraged to explore the student’s interests and have fun while building a relationship. There are two mentoring tracks, College and Career Mentoring or Interest-Based Mentoring.
Additional Requirements: Students are 3rd – 12th grade. Mentor approval through mentoring match-up process.
Time commitment: Meet a minimum of once monthly for at least 12 months.
Leadership Teams provide teens the opportunity to develop and use their strengths to positively impact their community.
This year, the Philanthropy Team organized “Lincoln Stands Together” Against Bullying making the Channel 8 news.
Louder Than A Bomb Slam Poetry Competition– went to semi finals (their pieces are on you tube in the LTAB Great Plains channel)
They have gone several times to the open mic night at Crescent moon – performing with adults and holding their own! They are making an impact in a space that often has a lot of hurt and pain.
Hopes and Dreams performances by 5 of the team members in front of 200 people.
Topics studied this year that the kids chose:
- Media Bias
- Child Abuse
- Operation Christmas Child
- OCC ad a goal of sending 15 boxes – they sent 24! They ran a successful raffle and raised enough money to pay for the postage on all of the boxes.
- Media bias. project, made a video about what they learned
- Child abuse, plan and shop for items to give to agencies who support abused children. Each team member was allotted $10 of budget funds to spend on items for one of the three agencies that spoke to us about child abuse. They made a list of items for which agency they wanted to support, then we shopped at Dollar Tree & Target to buy those items.
City Impact Student Leaders
ILA students come to City Impact Kids each Tuesday to serve younger students as small group leaders, kitchen helpers, and GFG clerks.
Additional Requirements: 6th – 12th grade. Must have recommendation from classroom leader that student has the maturity to work with younger kids and complete training.
Time commitment: Every City Impact Kids Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Youth Leadership Council
A select group of students who want to take on more responsibility and ownership of City Impact programs. They will help with decision-making, provide support to classroom leaders and help with events. Students will be “elected” by their classmates.
Additional Requirements: 8th – 12th grade. Must fill out YLC application and be voted in by TBC students.
Time commitment: First ILA Sunday of the Month 4:00 – 5:00 pm
City Impact Youth Board Member
Each year, two students are invited to participate on the City Impact Board. Terms are for 1-2 years. Students get leadership experience on a board level learning how non profit organizations are run. Students are asked to speak from a youth perspective on our organization, providing valuable context to our programs.
Additional Requirements: 9th – 12th grade. Must fill out application and be able to make board meetings.
Time commitment: 6 Board meetings a year (on Monday evenings)
Trained volunteer coaches will be matched with an ILA student to help them discover and develop their personal strengths and talents. The sessions will be 30 minutes and focus on building self-awareness, talking about the results of different assessments and setting goals.
Additional Requirements: 4th – 12th grade, go through process to be matched with coach.
Time commitment: TBD
Each summer ILA students lead the younger City Impact Kids students in Challenge Circles, a fun hour of games and cheers designed to share the love of Jesus with kids! We have 4 teams of kids, with at least 2 Challenge Circle Coaches for each. It’s a great way to serve and love the younger students in our program and the neighborhood.
Additional Requirements: 7th – 12th grade. Must complete training sessions prior to C.C. starting.
Time commitment: Tuesdays during June and July from 5:00 – 8:00 pm (approx.)
